Rundu Employees accused of accepting bribe
NEWS IN SHORT
Three Rundu town council employees – Peter Jonah (41), Peter Sikongo (43) and Frieda Johannes (31) – appeared in court on Friday after they were caught accepting an alleged N$1 000 bribe to illegally reconnect water at a disconnected house. The operation was part of a police sting conducted at Kings Park, Rundu, on 25 June. The trio, from the council’s technical services department, reportedly bypassed formal reconnection procedures without employer consent. They face charges under section 43(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act for corruptly using their positions for gratification. The accused remain in custody, with the case postponed to 30 June for a bail application.
