Police officer dies after drinking battery acid
A police officer has died after months of fighting for his life in hospital after he drank battery acid in September at the Okahao police barracks.
Sem Thomas Shilyomunhu (36) died on 30 November at Oshakati State Hospital. He had been hospitalised since 23 September after he allegedly tried to commit suicide by drinking battery acid.
Omusati crime coordinator deputy commissioner Moses Simaho said after Shilyomunhu drank the battery acid water, he was taken to Okahao District Hospital for medical treatment. He was later transferred to Oshakati, where he received medical treatment until his death.
Simaho said the deceased body will be taken to the Oshakati police mortuary for a postmortem to be conducted as investigations continue. No suicide note was found. - TUYEIMO HAIDULA
