Police investigate rape of 8-year-old girl
Uncle a suspect in child rape case
An undercover police operation led to the arrest of two Angolan nationals who were caught in possession of pangolin skins and scales last week.
The Namibian police are investigating a report of the rape of an eight-year-old girl, allegedly by her uncle, in Henties Bay’s Omdel location. The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday.
“It is alleged that the suspect offered the victim and her mother, [who was] allegedly intoxicated, [a place to] sleep in his room, on his bed, while he slept next to the bed on a mattress on the floor," a report issued on weekend crime incidents stated.
The police report indicates that the man was caught raping the child when the mother woke up and discovered "him naked on top of the minor. No arrest was made, and the police investigation continues.”
Incidents of crime, accidents
Two Angolan nationals were caught on Friday in possession of two pangolin skins and 57 pangolin scales after they tried to sell them to undercover police officers.
The suspects were arrested and charged with possession of controlled wildlife products without a permit and dealing with controlled wildlife products without a permit.
The police report further stated that on Friday morning, on the B1 road, Fidel Castro Hango (29) died on the spot after his vehicle, an SUV, “left the road at high speed” and slammed into the centre pillar of the bridge, which separates the right and left lanes of the highway.
Three suicides were also reported over the weekend.
In Ondangwa, Robert Shityeni Namutewa (51) is suspected to have taken his own life in his room, while Muyendekwa Naimbwa (30) also reportedly ended her own life in Katutura.
