Police investigate alleged rape of girl (11)

Police are investigating allegations of the rape of an 11-year-old girl in a field near Eyambeko Village in the Oshikoto Region by a 26-year-old man over the weekend.

The suspect has been arrested and is set to appear before the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court this week, according to a crime report issued by the police on Sunday.

In Oshakati West, a 24-year-old male suspect was arrested after he was found in possession of 64 grams of cannabis valued at N$3 200. He is scheduled to appear before the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court this week. Meanwhile, near Koes, two suspects aged 34 and 48 were arrested while travelling on a horse cart along the M11 gravel road.

They were found in possession of two full bankies and half a bankie of cannabis. They will appear before the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court, with valuations of the drugs still pending.

In Okakarara, a 26-year-old male was arrested after allegedly throwing a brick at a police vehicle, damaging it, obstructing officers and issuing threats. Investigations into this matter are ongoing, police said.

Tragic deaths

Police were also notified of the suicide of a 15-year-old minor in Kambumbu village in the Kahenge district who reportedly took his own life over the weekend following an altercation with his stepfather.

No suicide note was found.

Police further reported that in Gobabis, a 23-year-old man, who had earlier been arrested for malicious damage to property, died under unusual circumstances at Gobabis State Hospital.

It is alleged that while in the hospital’s emergency room, Moyo stole a Xylocaine anaesthetic spray, ingested it after requesting to use the restroom, and collapsed upon his return. Despite efforts to resuscitate him, he was declared dead at the scene. An inquest docket has been opened and investigations are underway.

Furthermore, in the Eros Mountains near Klein Windhoek, the body of an unidentified man was found after he had reportedly died by suicide. Investigations are ongoing to determine his identity.
