Opuwo man attempts to torch service station

A 29-year-old man was expected to appear in court this week at Opuwo after he allegedly tried to torch Ohakane service station at the town on Sunday.
“It is alleged that the suspect came to service station and found a security [guard] there. He then requested to see the manager and the [guard] asked the suspect to accompany him; however, the suspect refused and instead sat down on a chair while the [guard] went to call the manager,” a police report narrated.
It added that when the guard returned, he found the suspect lighting a match and pointing it at the fuel pump.
When asked what he was trying to do, the suspect warned the guard not to come any closer, or else he would set the service station on fire. By then the manager, other security guards and community members had arrived, and as the suspect lit a second match, they managed to subdue him.
