North inundated by stock theft
Police in the Omusati and Oshikoto regions have engaged farming communities to address stock theft.
This after the police recorded a marked increase in these cases over the past months and received several complaints from farmers.
Omusati crime investigation coordinator Moses Simaho said engaging the communities will assist the police in finding solutions and sharing suggestions on how to curb crime.
Meanwhile, police in Omusati are hard at work to track down a suspect who allegedly stole 15 goats from Oluno village in the Onesi constituency.
Costly loss
The stolen goats, valued at N$18 000, have been recovered. However, the suspect is still at large.
He added that police are yet to recover nine goats stolen in the same village, allegedly by a 25-year-old Angolan national.
These goats are valued at N$12 000.
In related news, police in Oshikoto arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly stealing seven heads of cattle at Okambuwa village worth N$70 000.
A police spokesperson, Inspector Ellen Nehale, said the theft had taken place between April 2022 and May 2023.
"The complainant left her seven heads of cattle under the care of the suspect, who is a relative to her late husband, and upon visiting the suspect, the complainant realised that the cattle could not be accounted for," she said.
The suspect is due to appear in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court today.
None of the animals have been recovered, and police investigations continue.
