N$4.4million Nored theft case pushed to June
Rundu Magistrate's Court has postponed the case of two men accused of stealing N$4.4 million worth of electrical equipment to 4 June.
Linyando Alphons Linyando (53) and David Kwandu (52) are accused of stealing the equipment from the Northern Regional Electricity Distributor (NORED).
The two made their first appearance in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on 6 May, with follow-up sessions on 13, 14, and 15 May before the matter was postponed on 16 May.
According to police, the primary suspect, Linyando, an employee at Nored, is accused of stealing 103 transformers and 14 poles from the premises.
The stolen items, valued at N$4 453 965.99, were allegedly sold to his accomplice, Kwandu, the owner of Nue Zongombe.
Many of the stolen transformers and poles were later discovered at a warehouse in Mazana village, Kavango East.
Authorities believe the motive behind the theft was to extract copper wire and oil from inside the transformers. Linyando was arrested on 2 May, followed by Kwandu’s arrest on 5 May.
Kwandu was initially believed to be in Katima Mulilo before being apprehended.
