N$2.7 million burglary at Omaruru
Kruger Rand gold coins stolen
Burglars broke into a jeweller's house at Omaruru and stole jewellery, watches, leather jackets, a pistol and Kruger Rand cold coins.
The Mausberg family's home at Omaruru was burgled recently and items worth N$2.7 million were stolen, which included N$2 million worth of Kruger Rand cold coins.
Anette Mausberg, who is a jeweller, told Erongo 24/7 that she was on their plot near Omaruru and that her husband left for Windhoek. Their domestic worker, Alexia, who has been with them for 17 years and lives on their premises in Omaruru, was at the house with the two dogs.
On Tuesday, the Mausbergs got a call from Alexia to tell them someone had broken into their house. It seemed the burglar (or burglars) managed to enter the house through a window which is hidden in thick overgrowth in the garden.
“Nothing was scattered around the house. It seemed they knew exactly where to find everything; just picking them up nicely and leaving everything in good order,” Anette said.
The stolen goods included a 9mm pistol, N$50 00 worth of watches, N$40 000 worth of leather jackets, about N$600 000 worth of jewellery and 102 Kruger rand with a total value of N$2 million.
The police are investigating the theft. Anyone offered any of the stolen items for sale should immediately contact the police.
