Man kills girlfriend with iron bar
A 42-year-old man allegedly beat his girlfriend to death with an iron bar in their home in Etoshapoort, Outjo, on Saturday.
The deceased, identified as Duffie Bokkie Hanes, suffered multiple head wounds.
It is alleged that the suspect borrowed a wheelbarrow from a neighbour, with which he moved Hanes’s body to her mother’s house.
The body was taken to the Outjo State Hospital where the doctor certified her dead. The suspect was arrested.
Boy beaten to death
At Ondjungulume village in the Otamanzi Constituency, a nine-year-old boy was beaten to death by unknown suspects on Thursday afternoon.
The body was buried in a shallow grave under a marula tree next to the boy’s home.
According to the police, the boy’s grandmother discovered the body. Investigations are ongoing.
Baby drowns in homebrew
A one-year-old boy drowned in a 20-litre bucket of marula juice (omagongo) at Gwaniita village in the Omusati Region.
According to the police, the toddler drowned while his mother and the rest of his family were out of the house. He was already dead when his mother found him.
Taxi hijacked
On Saturday, a 30-year-old taxi driver was kidnapped by seven men in front of a bar in Mondesa.
The suspects assaulted the driver with stones, tore off his clothes and locked him in the boot of his taxi.
The gang then drove around with the taxi, robbing people in the streets at gunpoint. According to the victim, he heard a single gunshot at one stage, but did not know where it happened.
The car was found abandoned behind Festus Gonteb Primary School in Mondesa at about 06:00. The taxi driver was rescued by a passer-by who heard him screaming for help from the boot.
No arrest has been made.
