Man arrested for allegedly raping 13-year-old girl

Police are investigating the alleged rape of a 13-year-old girl over the weekend, as well as an incident in which a suspected poacher was shot and wounded in a gunfight with anti-poaching rangers.

According to the latest weekend police crime report, a man was arrested after allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl in the Havana informal settlement in Windhoek on Friday.

In another reported rape case in the Omusati region, a 21-year-old woman was allegedly threatened with a knife and raped in bushes near Ohakapeke village on Friday night. The suspect had not been arrested by the time the police report was issued.

Police are also investigating a violent housebreaking in which a 44-year-old woman was allegedly confronted in her Eros home in Windhoek during the early hours of Friday.

The incident occurred at about 01:30 in Kilimanjaro Street, where several suspects allegedly broke into the house, woke the woman and tied her hands.

Police allege that the suspects stole a cell phone, unlocked it and accessed a Nedbank banking app before ransacking the house. Items valued at over N$51 000 were reportedly stolen. No arrests or recoveries had been made by late Sunday.

In Katutura, a 26-year-old man was allegedly assaulted and threatened with pangas at Single Quarters on Saturday night before suspects robbed him of cash and three mobile phones valued at N$28 300. No arrests or recoveries had been made at the time of the report.

In Rehoboth, a 78-year-old man reportedly lost N$39 080 in an alleged banking scam. Police allege that an unknown person called the man at about 09:23 on Friday and impersonated a Bank Windhoek employee.

The victim allegedly provided his banking details, after which N$39 080 was transferred from his account. No arrest or recovery had been made.


Alleged poacher shot

A suspected poaching incident near Outjo resulted in one suspect being injured during an exchange of gunfire with anti-poaching rangers.

Police allege that two men, aged 30 and 45, entered the farm at about 09:00 on Saturday and were spotted by rangers on patrol. The suspects allegedly opened fire after seeing the rangers, who returned fire and injured the 30-year-old man. He was taken to Outjo Hospital for medical treatment, while the 45-year-old suspect allegedly fled.

Police said a hunting rifle, two live rounds, two spent cartridges, a knife, an axe, bread and chips were found at the scene. A 35-year-old man, allegedly the getaway driver, was also arrested after he was found in a white seven-seater vehicle parked near the vicinity of the farm.

The suspects are being investigated for conspiracy to hunt specially protected game and trespassing.


Property theft

Several property-related crimes were reported during the weekend. At Namport’s Synchrolift in Walvis Bay, suspects allegedly cut and removed a vessel’s power supply cable valued at N$30 000.

In Ondangwa, suspects allegedly broke into a storage container at Sun Square Mall in Dragon City and stole PVC pipes and boxes of tiles worth N$13 500. In Otjomuise, items valued at N$14 000 were allegedly stolen after suspects forced open a garage door.

A cuca shop in Onambango B Village near Oluno was allegedly broken into, with goods worth N$24 788 stolen. In Katima Mulilo, property valued at N$16, 950 was allegedly stolen after suspects tampered with a room lock.

In Endola, police arrested a 40-year-old man after he allegedly used pliers to cut three DC power cables at an MTC tower in Onepandaulo village. The cables, valued at N$30 000, were recovered.

In Rehoboth, police are investigating an attack on a fire brigade truck returning from extinguishing a house fire in Block E. The incident occurred at about 03:00 on Saturday when a group allegedly began throwing stones at the truck.

One suspect allegedly threw a stone through the driver-side window, damaging the vehicle. No arrests were reported.
