Man allegedly stabs girlfriend 26 times

The Namibian Police are investigating a brutal murder in which a 24-year-old man allegedly stabbed his 22-year-old girlfriend 26 times with a knife and a screwdriver over the weekend.

According to a police report, the suspect has confessed to the killing. Both weapons were recovered at the scene.

Meanwhile, in Otjikondo, Kunene Region, police arrested a 24-year-old man on suspicion of raping a 12-year-old girl. The suspect allegedly lured the victim and her five-year-old brother under the pretext of needing assistance to slaughter a chicken. In Mariental, a 29-year-old man was arrested for the alleged rape of a 17-year-old girl, whom he is reported to have ambushed while she was returning from an errand.

In Wanaheda, Windhoek, a devastating shack fire claimed the lives of two children, aged four and six, who were left in the care of their 20-year-old brother. Police investigations revealed that the mother had left the children at home while she was at work.

Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare visited the bereaved family to express his condolences and said government, through its disaster management structures, is on hand to offer the necessary support.

In another alleged domestic violence incident, a 32-year-old man in Otjiwarongo was critically injured after he was allegedly stabbed in the chest by his 50-year-old ex-girlfriend. The police confirmed that the suspect has been arrested.

Drug busts

In Tutaleni, Walvis Bay, a 24-year-old man was arrested after collecting a courier parcel containing 969 grams of cannabis, valued at N$48 450. According to police, the parcel was addressed to the suspect and had been shipped from Windhoek.

Police also reported that a 22-year-old secondary school learner was arrested in Otjiwarongo’s Orwetoveni suburb on Friday night after officers discovered 756 grams of cannabis in his possession during a patrol. The drugs have an estimated street value of N$37 800.

Meanwhile, a tragic accident occurred in Okahandja on Friday afternoon when a tyre of a Toyota double cab bakkie burst, causing the vehicle to overturn near the Gross Barmen bridge.

According to the police, the vehicle was carrying ten passengers. Three individuals died at the scene, while the remaining seven were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

In Otavi, a 39-year-old man was caught red-handed slaughtering a stolen cow valued at N$10 000 on Farm Okatjiho. The carcass was recovered at the scene, according to the police report.

Additionally, in Oshivelo, police recovered stolen beef hidden in a bushy area. The suspects, who were captured on CCTV while slaughtering the animal, remain at large.
