Man accused of killing girlfriend during fight
A 27-year-old man was arrested last week on charges related to the murder of his girlfriend, Yvonne Paulus (35), following an argument.
Gabriel Ndeutapo and Paulus were seen arguing on 21 September on a farm near Aussenkehr. It is alleged that the argument revolved around a cell phone and jealousy issues. The incident was seen by the farm’s manager, who tried to intervene and stop the argument from escalating.
Sensing his attempts were failing, the farm manager drove towards Aussenkehr to get a signal on his phone and called the police for assistance.
Fled to mountains
However, when he returned to the scene of the argument, he found Paulus lying in a pool of blood. Ndeutapo had, meanwhile, fled the scene.
On arrival, the police discovered Paulus had sustained a fatal stab wound to her neck in addition to marks that indicated she had possibly been strangled with a rope.
The police launched a manhunt to find Ndeutapo, who had fled to hide in the nearby mountains close to the Orange River, an area he is alleged to have known well.
On Saturday, the police discovered Ndeutapo’s hiding place, and he was arrested.
He appeared at the Karasburg Magistrate's Court on Monday and was denied bail. The case was postponed to 12 October for further investigations.
Paulus' remains were transferred to Keetmanshoop for a post-mortem to determine the details surrounding her death. Her next of kin have been informed.
