#JustIn: Rape accused dies in holding cell
Jeyno Gino Fredericks (31), who had been arrested on rape charges, died in a fight with another inmate in the holding cells of the Mariental police station on Sunday evening.
Police spokesperson, deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, confirmed the incident and mentioned that the cause of the altercation between the two individuals remains unclear at this point.
“It is alleged that the deceased fell unconscious to the ground after a physical fight with another inmate. He was rushed to the Mariental hospital, but was declared dead on arrival. No physical wounds were observed on the body of the deceased. The cause of death is unknown, but a postmortem will be conducted to determine the cause,” she said.
