#JustIn: Five rapes reported this weekend

Five rapes were reported over the weekend, including the gang rape of a 6-year-old girl by two boys (aged 15 and 11) at the Uukango village in the Ohangwena region. It is alleged that the boys twice found the girl walking home from school and raped her.

At Gibeon, a 44-year-old woman was raped by her 42-year-old ex-boyfriend at Farm Groendoring. It is alleged that the suspect grabbed the victim while she was sleeping, took her outside, undressed her and raped her. He is the father of two of her children and she allegedly offered him accommodation; however, he demanded sex and she refused.

He has been arrested.

In another incident, a 16-year-old girl was repeatedly raped between 2021 and 2022 by two Angolan nationals at Onethika village in the Olukonda constituency in the Oshikoto region. It is alleged that the suspects were cattle headers who lived in the same house as the girl but who left Namibia in 2022 at an unknown date. The incident was only now reported to the girl’s father.

In yet another incident, in Rundu on Saturday, a 15-year-old girl was raped at the Kehemu location. The suspect is known but has not been arrested yet.

On Saturday, a 20-year-old woman was raped by a 33-year-old man in Kuisebmond in the Erongo region. It is alleged that the suspect undressed the woman at a friend’s house after drinking together. The suspect has been arrested.
