‘I will kill you and kill myself’

Tuyeimo Haidula
A 37-year-old woman has been under police guard since Saturday after her ex-boyfriend threatened to kill her and then commit suicide.

A case of common assault and assault by threat is currently being investigated by the police in the Omusati Region after the suspect allegedly made the threat at Okapya village in the Oshikuku constituency.

Omusati crime investigation coordinator Moses Simaho told Namibian Sun yesterday that Cathrina Shiimi’s ex-boyfriend allegedly went to meet Shiimi at her parents’ homestead to apologise, hoping to fix things after the two separated.

However, Shiimi refused and the suspect started fighting with her, in the processing biting her on the back.

“The victim took a bottle, hit the suspect in the forehead and the suspect sustained an injury. Then the suspect threatened to kill her and kill himself,” Simaho said.

The man has yet to be arrested, and Shiimi is being kept at the Oshikuku Police Station for protection, he added. Police investigations continue.

Attempted murder

In a separate incident, a case of attempted murder is being investigated by police in Omusati after 61-year-old David Shangula was allegedly hit on the head with a brick at a shebeen in the Onandjandja location.

The incident occurred on 28 April between 18:00 and 19:00 in the Onesi constituency.

Simaho said the matter was only reported to police recently when family and community members found out that Shangula was in a critical condition.

Although no arrests have been made yet, the suspect is known.

“It is alleged that the suspect was arguing with the victim at the location and while arguing, the suspect took the brick and hit the victim in the head, resulting in the victim sustaining a swollen cheek as well as internal head injuries,” Simaho said.

He added that the victim was first treated at Onesi Health Centre before being transferred to Oshakati State Hospital where he is currently admitted in the intensive care unit.

“No domestic violence is involved in the matter, but alcohol abuse is involved,” Simaho said, adding that police investigations continue.
