A 101-year-old pensioner, Fillemon Johannes, from Ondiiyala village in Oshana region, was found dead in his sleep on Friday morning.

Family members discovered his body when they went to check on him.

While no foul play is suspected, police have opened an inquest as a matter of procedure and continue their investigation.

Elsewhere in the Okatyali area, a 42-year-old man, Nuumbala Sakalia, is believed to have drowned in a water pan early the same day.

His body was found at around 07:00, and police are investigating the circumstances.

Late Friday night, a hit-and-run between Malanami and Blikkiesdorp junction in Grootfontein left a female pedestrian seriously injured after being struck by a white Toyota Passo.

The driver failed to stop or provide assistance.

The victim was taken to Grootfontein State Hospital and is in stable condition.

Intelligence-led operation

Drug-related arrests dominated police dockets over the weekend, with suspects caught in Aroab, Koes, Ncaute, and Oranjemund.

Notably, an intelligence-led operation in Oranjemund led to the arrest of two individuals found with 345 grams of cannabis allegedly laced or mistaken for cocaine, with an estimated value of N$17 250.

In Katutura, a home was broken into on Mika Shimbuli Street, with thieves making off with property worth N$17 000. No arrests have been made.

The most brazen act of the weekend occurred in Karasburg on Saturday when seven armed men invaded a home in the Westerkim location and robbed the resident at gunpoint of N$10 000 in cash and items worth N$4 500.

Police arrested four suspects and recovered some of the stolen goods, while three suspects remain at large.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity as investigations continue into all reported incidents.
