Drugs and sex alleged in Eros murder
Police are investigating suspicions that drugs and sexual advances were at the centre of the murder of local engineer Benjamin Silombela at his house in Windhoek’s Eros suburb last week.
Silombela’s body was found in his home, with both his arms tied with wire behind his back, according to a police report. His legs were also tied with a T-shirt, while his mouth was covered with a cloth. It is suspected the deceased was strangled to death, with no open wounds on his body, New Era reported yesterday.
Two accused persons in the matter, Muningandu Kaapama and Jorene Bezuidenhout, appeared in the Windhoek Magistrate's Court yesterday. The pair is charged with murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
Police officials yesterday told Namibian Sun that their investigations so far point to the trio having sold each other drugs.
“The male suspect [Kaapama] arrived at the deceased’s house with a woman. The two guys knew each other before, so they are acquaintances.
Flirting gone wrong
“What we have picked up so far is that the two men sold each other drugs that night and the deceased made sexual advances to the female suspect – who is the girlfriend of the guy she came with,” investigators told Namibian Sun.
“It looks like Silombela’s advances angered Kaapama and that was when the two suspects attacked him and tied him up. They stole some of the deceased’s items, including clothes, and ran off in his car.
“Somebody who knows Silombela noticed the car in Okahandja that night and tried to call him after noticing he was not the one driving it. When he didn’t pick up many phone calls, the family was informed and they went to his house and broke down his door. They found him dead.”
After the suspects made their maiden appearance in court, their case was postponed to 8 August.
