Dagga worth close to N$2m seized
Cannabis valued at close to N$2 million was seized last month as part of drug-related seizures.
According to a drug seizure and arrest report issued for the month of August, various drugs worth a total of more than N$2.035 million were confiscated, while 148 suspects were arrested in connection with drug-related matters.
Of these suspects, 136 were Namibians, six Angolans, a Congolese, a Tanzanian and a Botswana national as well as one Nigerian, one South African and one Zambian.
The confiscated drugs include 194 664kg of cannabis valued at N$1.94 million, 523 mandrax tablets to the value of N$62 760, 39 grams of cocaine powder worth N$19 500 and 70 units of crack cocaine worth N$7 000.
July seizures, arrests
In July, drugs to the value of more than N$5 million were confiscated, while police arrested 172 suspects in connection with drug-related matters.
Of these suspects, 161 were Namibians.
Last year between February and December, 1 171 suspects were arrested in connection with drug-related crimes.
According to police statistics, during this period, drugs to the value of more than N$37.4 million were confiscated in Namibia, while 1 073 Namibians were arrested.
Statistics for January 2021 were not available.
