Axe and saw murder stuns Zambezi Village

Elizabeth Kheibes
Residents of Musukubili village in the Zambezi Region awoke on Saturday to the shocking discovery of Rosa Namakaliza Sitali's lifeless body, 28, lying in a pool of blood.

A bloodied axe and saw were recovered at the scene of the crime.

The Namibian Police's crime report says Sitali was murdered, most likely in a brutal act of domestic violence.

A trail of evidence led investigators to a Zambian identification card belonging to the victim’s boyfriend, a 26-year-old Zambian national.

The suspect was later found after reportedly attempting to take his own life by electrocution.

He sustained severe burns and remains under police guard in Katima Mulilo State Hospital.

Sitali is one of four women reported to have died during the weekend, though no foul play is suspected in any of these incidents.

In Omuthiya, a 29-year-old woman took her own life.

The other two deaths occurred in Ongwediva and Omulunga, where the bodies of a 100-year-old and a 72-year-old woman were found in their respective homes.

The deaths are being investigated but are not considered suspicious.

Police also revealed that a woman in Brakwater Carin Park, Katutura, was robbed at gunpoint and knifepoint of N$240 000 in cash.

No arrests have yet been made in the high-value armed robbery.

Meanwhile, in Tsumkwe, four men were caught removing fencing poles from a regional council garden.

The stolen property was recovered and all four suspects are expected to appear in court.

A home burglary in Eugene Marais Street, Klein Windhoek, saw a thief break into a house between 16:00 and 18:00 on Friday, making off with items valued at N$45 000.

The suspect remains at large.

Rape, murder and accidents

The incident reportedly stemmed from a dispute.

The victim, Tomas Shikesho Sheya, died on arrival at hospital.

In Sesfontein, police are investigating an alleged rape after a 32-year-old man reportedly forced a 27-year-old woman into his room and raped her.

He has been arrested.
