2 921 seal penises and 25 horses stolen in Erongo
The Erongo police are investigating two separate theft cases in the region involving stolen animal products and livestock worth more than N$2.2 million.
In the first incident, 696 bull seal penises and 2 225 smaller seal penises were stolen from a seal factory in Henties Bay on Thursday morning, 6 November.
Suspects removed the office door to gain entry and also stole an Acer laptop with a hard drive, police said. The total value of the stolen goods is estimated at N$950 000.
The complainant, a 61-year-old Chinese national and factory manager, reported the theft. Nothing has been recovered and no arrests have been made by time of going to print.
Seal penises are used in traditional medicine in China. Namibia’s sealing and animal-by-product trade has long attracted international scrutiny due to the demand for these organs, which fetch significant prices abroad.
Million-dollar horse theft
In a separate case, police in the Omaruru district are investigating the theft of 25 Friesian horses valued at N$1.25 million from a farm. The theft occurred between July 2022 and March 2025, and the horses were allegedly sold.
The complainant, a 68-year-old Namibian woman, reported the matter. No arrests have been made.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Warrant Officer Eddison Gawanab at 081 488 8544 or any nearest police station.
