Osona Village champions health and hope

As Breast Cancer Awareness Month came to an end, the residents of Osona Village united in a show of unity, strength and compassion during the Breast Cancer Awareness Fun Run, High Tea & Mental Wellness Event held late last month.The event, themed “Nurturing Body, Mind and Spirit”, brought together hundreds of participants for a day dedicated to health, hope and holistic well-being.The morning began with an invigorating Fun Run, where women, men and children took to the streets of Osona Village dressed in shades of pink. The colourful display symbolised solidarity with breast cancer survivors and those currently fighting the disease. The run not only promoted physical activity but also served as a reminder of the importance of early detection and regular screenings.According to the Cancer Association of Namibia (CAN), breast cancer remains the most common form of cancer among Namibian women. CAN continues to emphasise that awareness campaigns, community events and regular self-examinations are vital in reducing the number of late-stage diagnoses.Following the Fun Run, the women of Osona Village gathered for an elegant High Tea — a reflective space where guests shared their experiences, celebrated survivors and gained valuable knowledge about maintaining both physical and mental health. The beautifully decorated venue, adorned with pink ribbons and flowers, created an atmosphere of warmth, sisterhood and hope. InspirationThe programme featured several inspiring speakers, including local health professionals and mental wellness advocates, who underscored the importance of mental health in recovery and caregiving. They highlighted how emotional resilience, self-care and supportive communities can make a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer.The keynote speakers reminded attendees that “healing is not just a physical process; it’s emotional, psychological and spiritual. We must continue breaking the silence around mental health, especially for women dealing with illness or loss.”Participants were also encouraged to adopt holistic wellness practices such as mindfulness, balanced nutrition and regular exercise - essential habits that improve overall quality of life.By the end of the day, the event had successfully blended fitness, awareness and mental wellness, leaving attendees inspired and empowered. Organisers expressed gratitude to sponsors, volunteers and the Osona Village community for making the initiative a success.“As a community, we stand together not only to raise awareness but to offer real support,” said the event coordinators.The Osona Village Breast Cancer Awareness Fun Run, High Tea & Mental Wellness Event served as both a tribute to survivors and a rallying call for continued education and compassion.
