Exhibition depicts bond between generations, nations
Be|Longing, a new multimedia exhibition, opens at the Namibian Arts Association (NAA) in the capital this evening.
The exhibition consists of paintings, videos and music from three generations of artists, namely Kirsti, Sakari and Matilda Löytty. The installations tie together their experiences of living and working in and between Namibia and Finland.
Original paintings and drawings by the late Kirsti, Matilda's grandmother who lived and worked in Namibia in the 50s and 60s, form part of the exhibition. Matilda spent her childhood in Namibia and later did art-based research for her MA degree in Namibia. Her paintings and videos serve as counterparts to Kirsti's art.
The installations contain music composed and performed by the famous musician and composer Dr Sakari Löytty who has been living and working in Namibia for more than 20 years. He researched northern Namibian traditional music and worked with many local musicians.
Everyone is welcome to attend the opening at 18:00 . Sakari Löytty, Aveshe Munyika, Olivia Amupala and others will provide live music at the event.
