STAFF REPORTER

1. Can you briefly introduce yourself and describe your current role as Manager

at Bank Windhoek?

My name is Clarissa Huisamen, and I am the Manager, SME at Bank Windhoek. My

role focuses on supporting our branches and clients, helping businesses grow, and

ensuring that we deliver meaningful solutions that create value for our customers.

2. What does being a manager mean to you, and what do you believe makes

someone an effective leader?

Leadership is about positively influencing and empowering others. An effective leader

helps people grow, listens actively, and provides guidance that enables others to

succeed. Above all, leaders should have a genuine willingness to help and support

those around them.

3. What have your experiences in the banking industry taught you about building

a successful career?

The most important lesson I have learned is to always be yourself and give your best in

every opportunity you take on. Success requires resilience, consistency, and the

determination to never give up on your goals.

4. What are some of the biggest lessons you have learnt throughout your career

that you believe young professionals should know?

Do not take setbacks personally. Feedback and correction are opportunities for growth,

not signs of failure. Stay humble, remain teachable, and be willing to learn from every

experience.

5. The banking industry continues to change through technology and innovation.

What skills do you believe professionals need to remain relevant in this changing

environment?

Technology, particularly AI, is transforming the way we work. Professionals need to

embrace change, remain adaptable, and continuously learn new skills to stay relevant in

an evolving industry.

6. What do you believe are some of the biggest misconceptions young people

have about working in banking?

Many people view banking as an easy or predictable career. In reality, it is demanding,

fast paced, and requires resilience, problem solving, and a strong commitment to

delivering results.

7. How important are qualities such as discipline, adaptability, communication

and continuous learning in building a career in banking?

These qualities are essential. Discipline builds reliability, communication strengthens

relationships, adaptability helps us navigate change, and continuous learning ensures

ongoing personal and professional growth.

8. What advice would you give to young professionals who aspire to move into

management or leadership positions?

Invest in your own growth first. Develop emotional intelligence, become someone others

can trust, and never stop learning. Read widely and stay informed about developments

in business, leadership, and human behaviour.

9. Looking at your own career, what has shaped your approach to work and

leadership the most?

The people I have worked with throughout my career have influenced me the most.

Learning from different leaders, colleagues, and clients has taught me the importance of

empathy, integrity, and leading by example.

10. If you could share one piece of advice with someone starting their career

today, what would it be and why?

Be curious and never stop learning. The world is changing faster than ever, and those

who remain open to new ideas, skills, and experiences will always have opportunities to

grow and succeed.
