O&L opens doors to young talent

The Ohlthaver & List Group (O&L) has officially welcomed 13 young professionals into its ‘Emerging Talent 2025’ programme.The initiative aims to nurture future professionals while addressing Namibia’s high youth unemployment rate.The recent graduates have been strategically placed across various subsidiaries within the group, spanning sectors such as business administration, finance, engineering, human resources, culinary arts and procurement.In a statement, O&L said the placements are deliberately focused on sectors where Namibia is experiencing a shortage of skilled workers."Young, well-educated Namibians often face the challenge of their qualifications not matching the labour market’s demands," explained Terence Makari, O&L’s chief human capital officer."For many, securing that first job is extremely difficult. Without work experience, opportunities are scarce – yet few companies are willing to offer that crucial first step."Close the gapAs Namibia’s largest private employer, O&L sees it as its responsibility to break this cycle. "Our Emerging Talent programme not only provides young professionals with jobs but also opens up long-term career prospects. At the same time, we are helping to close the skills gap in Namibia," said Makari.He also stressed that alleviating youth unemployment requires a joint effort from businesses, government and civil society.Programmes like Emerging Talent, he said, are an example of how the private sector can actively contribute to training future leaders and driving the country’s economic growth.
