BREAKING | Foot-and-mouth disease confirmed in Zambezi
Namibia has confirmed an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease at Impalila Island in the Zambezi Region, prompting an immediate ban on livestock movement and trade across the region.
All 12 samples collected from cattle showing clinical signs tested positive on 7 October, the ministry of agriculture confirmed.
Emergency vaccination is under way, while authorities have suspended livestock auctions, local slaughter and previously issued movement permits to contain the outbreak.
Farmers and livestock owners have been urged to report suspected cases to their nearest State Veterinary Office and comply with the restrictions.
