Fillemon Nghutenanye of Namibia kept his professional boxing career on course on Saturday night when he won the WBO Global flyweight title by technical knockout against Ramel Macado Junior of the Philippines. The main bout of MTC Salute Boxing Academy’s inaugural Dr Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah boxing tournament at Helao Nafidi lasted for five rounds, before Macado did not rise from his stool for the seventh of the scheduled 12 rounds. Nghutenanye got a wake-up call with a second-round knockdown from a Macado right hand, but recovered well and grew in confidence as the fight went on. The Namibian improved his record to 14 wins (six by knockout), one loss and two draws, although giving credit to his opponent and expressing his surprise when the left-handed Asian (10-2-1; 5 KOs) decided not to continue. Salute Boxing Promotion’s Kiriat Kamanya said his camp will continue working on Nghutenanye’s craft and getting him in line to contest for a world title. • Super welterweight Abed Shikongo (now 12 wins, one loss and one draw) got his record back on track with a technical knockout win against Ndodana Ncube from Zimbabwe. Ndodana, who replaced the initial opponent Simon Dladla (8-4) from South Africa, took a knee halfway through the third round and was counted out by the referee John Kaimbi. • Jonathan Kasheeta (now 9-1) secured the WBO Youth International bantamweight title when he beat Nassoro Ndame (10-2-1) by technical knockout. The Tanzanian was dropped in the first round, and took a knee halfway through the third round, before indicating to the referee that he’s had enough. • Veteran super middleweight and former world title contender Walter “The Executioner” Kautondokwa improved to 20-3 after the cornermen of Malawi’s Kudakwache Banda (7-10) threw in the towel during the fifth round. • Kareb Shitana (now 7 wins, 2 losses) beat Vikapita Meroro (30 wins, 20 losses) by majority decision (78-74, 76-76, 80-72) after eight rounds for the national cruiserweight title. • Bantamweight Immanuel Josef (17-4-1) fought six rounds against Fabian Lamek (0-5-1) from Oshakati, before being named the winner by unanimous decision (58-56, 59-55, 59-55).
