'Wrong Generation' trailer debuts, highlighting youth activism and social resistance

An intimate narrative of loss and a wider reflection

A powerful new trailer for the forthcoming Namibian film Wrong Generation has been released, offering audiences a striking first glimpse into a story rooted in modern-day activism, youth resistance, and collective courage.

Supported by the EU–Marang Fund, the film seeks to amplify urgent voices and lived experiences at the heart of contemporary social justice movements.

Its creators say the project underscores the role of art in sparking dialogue, nurturing solidarity, and challenging systems of violence and inequality.

Adapted from Ndiilokelwa Nthengwe’s 2022 book You Fcked With The Wrong Generation: An Ode to Modern-Day Activism*, the film draws direct inspiration from real events.

It follows the rising momentum of young Namibians who confront injustice while navigating personal trauma, healing, and resilience.

Set for release later this year, Wrong Generation centres on a group of estranged best friends who reunite in the wake of a series of brutal murders – the most recent claiming the life of a childhood companion.

System failure

Their grief soon transforms into mobilisation, culminating in one of the largest youth-led protests in post-apartheid Namibia.

The film’s producers describe it as both an intimate narrative of loss and a wider reflection on a society grappling with gender-based violence and systemic failure.

The newly launched trailer is now available across the production’s official digital platforms, inviting audiences, journalists, and activists to engage with the film ahead of its release.

In a statement accompanying the trailer, the production team thanked media practitioners and movement builders who continue to champion stories that confront injustice.

They emphasised that Wrong Generation is intended not solely as a cinematic work, but as a rallying point for communities, advocates, and young people demanding transformation.

“Wrong Generation is not just a film. It is a movement – a mirror – and an invitation to witness the unfiltered realities of modern-day activism,” the team said.

The full film is expected to generate further conversation as it moves towards its release in 2025.
