After years of refining his skills, Namibian DJ and producer Tumi Mohamed is set to unveil his first body of work - an EP titled ‘Induction’ - on Friday, 26 April.

In a recent interview with tjil, he shared insights into the creative process behind his first offering. Asked about the sonic direction of the project, Mohamed highlighted his meticulous approach: "Since this is my first offering to the world, I've spent quite some time working on it".

Drawing inspiration from his diverse musical tastes, the EP promises to showcase a fusion of styles that resonate with both his stage performances and personal listening preferences.

Addressing the delay in releasing his own music, the DJ attributed it to his perfectionist nature and strategic planning. "I wanted to grow my core audience for a great impact when it's time to present the music to the world," he explained.

Collaboration emerged as a central theme in shaping this project, with Mohamed mentioning Wholesome Zhan, Txngos and Mshizo as the producers he worked with on this EP. “These are producers who understand the core fundamentals of making music and are tapped in with what new sounds are coming out.

“I’ve also worked with amazing vocalists including Earthtonami, Enkali and Slay J,” he added.

Drawing from his background as a DJ and sound engineer, Mohamed emphasised the influence of his skills on the EP's production quality and creative process. "My professional background and experience most definitely helped me in shaping and developing the sound I'm about to present," he remarked. Through meticulous sound engineering and creative post-production techniques, he aims to deliver an immersive listening experience that compels audiences to dance.

Looking ahead, Mohamed expressed his hopes for the EP to make a lasting impression on listeners and propel his career forward. "I'm really looking to make a very good first impression that counts with the music I'm about to release," he said. With 'Induction' serving as an introduction to his artistry, the DJ hopes to convey a sense of authenticity and musical identity to his audience.
