The Real Housewives of Durban turn up the heat in Namibia
Social media was abuzz as the drama-filled season four of The Real Housewives of Durban (RHOD) premiered on Showmax recently – and this time, some of Namibia’s hottest tourist destinations were featured.
Episode 11 sees the glamourous women from the show, namely Nonku Williams, Sorisha Naidoo, Slee Ndlovu, Jojo Robinson, Maria Valaskatzis, Zama Ngcobo, Ameigh Thompson and Angel Ndlela, touch down at the Namibian coast and engage in several activities such as eco-gliding, camel riding and having a couple of sundowners in the dunes.
“Namibia has been one of the best countries I’ve visited in a long time,” said Sorisha during her stay at Swakopmund. “My husband, kids and I travel all the time around the world, and the hospitality, the food, the weather, and the activities have been incredible!”
Drama galore
Describing Namibia as “stunning” and a must-see destination to tick off on any traveller’s bucket list, it doesn’t take long before tension unravels as the ladies confront their issues, with a few stemming from events a couple of episodes prior.
This resulted in the ladies splitting into two core groups. On one side were Sorisha, Slee and newcomers Ameigh and Angel, while on the other side, Jojo, Maria, Nonku, and newcomer Zama teamed up. With the ladies from each camp not seeing eye-to-eye, viewers have a lot of unanswered questions – and hopefully, all will be revealed at the RHOD reunion after accusations of witchcraft, infidelity, control and more have surfaced.
Showmax recently announced that ‘King of Slay’ MaBlerh will host the reunion for the second year in a row and that the show will air in two parts on 15 and 22 May, following a dramatic season four finale.
Audience invested
“I know how heavily invested the audience is in the RHOD, which is why I can never go in there and be flippant,” said MaBlerh, the first African to host multiple reunions of The Real Housewives franchise, including The Real Housewives of Gqeberha S1 and The Real Housewives of Johannesburg S3. “There are people who wake up at midnight to watch the show, so I know that I have to take it seriously and deliver on all fronts. I am honoured to be breaking the record for an African host, and I’m excited to be back for the second time. It’s going to be a more comfortable experience for the ladies because we now have a rapport,” he added.
Connections
“We chose MaBlerh because he’s a big fan of The Real Housewives franchise and has a very deep connection with the Durban franchise,” says Sam Kelly, Let It Rain Films’ executive producer. “He is a fantastic host and did a spectacular job last season; he managed to tackle the themes with the grace and sensitivity they needed.”
Zama, who has been involved in some of the biggest feuds, said she won’t run away from anything that happened. “I am not a coward,” she said. “What I said on the show is how I feel. People think I won’t show up to the reunion because I am scared. I am not. I am going to go in there and speak my mind. I will not be intimidated by anyone.”
Maria and Slee, who both joined the show in Season 3, have also been at the centre of some of the biggest conflicts this season. “My game plan for this reunion is just to speak the truth,” said Maria. “I am not going to tip-toe around anything and anyone.”
