Showtime 837 channels love, lust and hustle in new EP
Web series series to depict slice of urban Windhoek life
In a bold cross-medium move, the Namibian artist and TV host is expanding the narrative of 'Chaf' into a six-episode web series.
Namibian performing artist and television host Showtime 837 has released the third instalment of his deeply personal trilogy series with ‘Chimera Tape Vol. 3 (4play)’, an EP that blends the themes of love, lust and emotional vulnerability.
“In the first one, I spoke about pain, passion and storytelling," Showtime 837 explained in an exclusive interview with tjil.
"The second one was more philosophical and poetic – giving advice,” he added.
“For the third one, I decided to do something for the ladies. Hence, its release on Valentine’s Day. It was dedicated just to love.”
The EP comprises four tracks, aligning with the project’s title, 4play, a clever nod to both its track count and sensual undertones.
So far, Showtime has released two singles from the tape: ‘Chaf’, accompanied by a music video, and ‘Holly’, which recently debuted as a follow-up single.
Bold storytelling
But the storytelling doesn't stop there. In a bold cross-medium move, Showtime is expanding the narrative of ‘Chaf’ into a six-episode web series set to launch later this year.
“The series centres around a young man called Lange, who I will be playing,” he revealed. “He’s caught between doing odd jobs – like stealing phones – to survive and trying to turn his life around after meeting the love of his life.”
Produced by Dine Mob Studio, The Uptown Boyz and South Side Music Group, Chaf the series aims to depict a slice of urban Windhoek life that resonates with local audiences. “We chose phones because it's relatable,” said Showtime. “We could have made it about diamond heists, but that’s not the reality for most people in our communities.”
A remix of ‘Chaf’, featuring Zella Full Force, Ms Iverson, DJ Spuzza, Skrypt and other collaborators from the original, is scheduled for release in August. The drop will coincide with the premiere of the web series' first trailer, ahead of its digital rollout and potential national broadcast on platforms like NBC.
