Savanna Comedy Hour returns for another year of laughs
Savanna Comedy Hour, which started at Vinyls four years ago, has grown into one of the country’s most anticipated comedy shows, with a new edition every month.
Over the past four years, the event has hosted more than 50 live shows and over 40 comedians from across Namibia, including emerging talents and seasoned performers honing their craft.
“Our stage has become more than a microphone and spotlight. It has become a launchpad. Over the years the platform has contributed to the growth of a national comedy ecosystem,” the team said in an opening address read on their behalf by award-winning comedian Axarob.
The team thanked the Namibian Breweries Savanna brand for its continued support, saying the partnership has amplified the movement “by aligning a premium brand with premium laughter".
They added that the collaboration has helped position comedy as a mainstream entertainment choice in Namibia.
Beyond hosting comedy nights, “we are building intellectual property, exportable talent and a brand that represents Namibian humour on global stages,” the organisers said. The Savanna Comedy Hour provides comedians with a professional platform and gives audiences the chance to see themselves reflected in the stories on stage.
The art of humour
Namibian Breweries marketing director Andries van der Sandt said Savanna is a brand that brings people together, and there is no better way to do that than through laughter.
“We are very proud to be associated with this event. This event invites everything we stand for as a brand. Connection, fun times, great experiences and bringing smiles to everyone’s faces.”
Comedy Hour founder Vernon van Wyk thanked Savanna for believing in their vision and being a partner for yet another year.
“It's not easy to host an event every month back to back. When we got the opportunity, we made sure that it would not only be 2025,” he said.
He encouraged other creatives to make the most of opportunities that are presented to them.
"The next comedy club must be able to come and take over where we left off. Whatever partnership you get, let’s make the most of it, because at the end of the day, you’re representing a whole nation.”
The acts for the opening night included Zita, Lifa and Wilbard, whose set included banter about current affairs, starting with going on a December holiday at the village in Namibia, the Valentine's Day money bouquet saga, and the Brave Gladiators bringing the Cosafa Cup home.
The event was attended by media personalities and influencers, and another edition will be hosted at the FNNCC on 2 April.
