tjil recently caught up with Angolan rapper Ney Chiqui during his visit to Namibia. He was here to shoot a music video.

Ney Chiqui is making significant strides in the music industry with his unique blend of modern rap beats and African rhythms, deeply rooted in his ethnic heritage. Born into a world of music, Ney told tjil that he embarked on his artistic journey at the tender age of 11, crafting his first sounds and beats in Namibia, where he received his primary education. “I grew up in Namibia and this early exposure to diverse musical influences laid the foundation for my distinctive sound,” he said.

Returning to Angola in 2020, Ney Chiqui dove into the realm of freestyle, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his career. His recent offering, ‘Filho do povo’ featuring Button Rose and Teo No Beat, has garnered about 250 000 views on YouTube. Filmed in Namibia by Reggie Film, the video is a testament to Ney’s growing influence and the positive reception of his work. “I am really thankful for the positive response this song is receiving,” he said.

Uniting audiences

Looking ahead to 2024, Ney Chiqui is poised to take his career to new heights with the release of an eagerly anticipated album. This forthcoming collection of 12 tracks is intended for each song to be accompanied by its own music video. In this body of work, the rapper promises to showcase versatility and depth as an artist. “Beyond the typical themes of rap such as money and girls, my album, on the other hand, will delve into motivational realms.”

Ney’s message to his Namibian fans is clear and heartfelt: "Keep listening to my songs, I have good things for you guys this year." As Ney Chiqui continues to rise, his journey from Angola to the continental stage encapsulates the power of music to transcend boundaries and unite diverse audiences.
