Namibian R&B singer Ian Lovely has released his latest track, 'Even When You Don’t', delivering a heartfelt sound that blends raw emotion with smooth vocals for local music lovers.

The Namibian musician told tjil this week that the title of the song "really came from observing a kind of love that doesn’t get talked about enough".

Lovely said people often celebrate love when everything is going well and both partners are at their best.

But he is more inspired by the moments when someone feels they have nothing left to give emotionally, mentally or even financially, yet still chooses to show up.

“I wanted people to feel seen, especially those who love deeply but don’t always feel like they’re doing enough."

The artist further noted that there is often pressure to be perfect in relationships, but the song is about reassurance, letting someone know that their effort, even in its simplest form, is enough.

He said the single celebrates partners who recognise their other half’s effort.

“Sometimes people don’t have the energy, or they’re going through something internally, but they still try to be present," he shared.

More coming soon

Lovely added that he produces all his songs and said the process of making his new release was intentional but still emotional.

“I started with the feeling first. I kept the tempo at 85 BPM to give the song space to breathe, while the textured drums create a modern R&B sound that still feels vulnerable," he noted.

The artist told tjil that the release signifies the start of something bigger and that he has been building a body of work, with this single setting the tone for that direction.

Lovely added that a clear vision is forming around a project that expands on themes of love, vulnerability and real-life experiences.

"There’s a lot coming this year. Visually, I want to bring these songs to life in a way that matches the emotion behind them, so visuals are definitely a big focus,” Lovely said.
