Pequenogang and Khadijah tease vibrant Gqom collaboration
Namibian producer and creative Pequenogang, also known as Nino, is preparing to introduce fans to his upcoming Gqom single, 'Hou Jou Mooi', featuring Khadijah.
Although the release date has not yet been announced, the collaboration is already creating excitement among eager fans.
Nino told tjil his connection to Gqom music stretches back to the early days of his music career.
“I have been pushing Gqom for a while now actually,” he shared. “What inspired me was the fact that it was the first genre I ever tried to work on that didn’t complicate it for me when I started my producing journey.”
He explained that while the upcoming track still carries his signature energy, the collaboration brought a fresh dynamic to the song.
“Nothing different really, only the artist and the beat changed,” he said. “Both artists came through and made sure to deliver and make it their own.”
Nino and Khadijah already had an established creative relationship before entering the studio together.
“I’ve worked with Khadijah on films before, so getting to work with her on the music side of things even made it easier for us to connect and make something beautiful."
Creative chemistry
For Khadijah, stepping into the Gqom space happened unexpectedly, despite already being familiar with the genre.
“I must say Gqom wasn’t particularly on my radar, even though it is on my playlist,” she said. “When Nino sent me the beat, it was so full of life and fun, it just sparked my alter ego immediately.”
The singer added that she and Nino had discussed making music together for some time, making the collaboration feel like a natural next step.
“It’s such a dope song. I can’t wait to hear it in a set or to see the girls on the dance floor,” she said.
Khadijah explained that the creative process came naturally once she connected with the beat.
“I had the beat on repeat for like a week and just kept mumbling to it until a verse came out. The girls loved ‘Lekker’ and I wanted to give them that feeling again with this song.”
Nino also confirmed that fans can expect more Gqom music from him later this year.
