Passionfruit returns with Vigro Deep, delivers high-energy night
Windhoek’s electronic music scene came alive as Passionfruit returned with one of its biggest editions yet, headlined by internationally renowned Amapiano DJ Vigro Deep at the Windhoek Showgrounds last Saturday.
The event was marketed as a night of “energy, rhythm and unstoppable vibes”.
It drew a large crowd of music lovers eager for a fresh and immersive dancefloor experience.
Event organiser Vernon van Wyk said the goal was to give attendees something different from previous editions.
“We want our attendees to enjoy the best DJ sets and a musical experience they haven’t had before," he said, noting that Vigro Deep has a strong Namibian fan base that had not previously experienced him live.
While the international headliner drew attention, the line-up also featured nine local DJs, balancing emerging and experienced talent within Namibia’s electronic music space.
Van Wyk explained that one of the main challenges was scaling up the event while maintaining its signature flavour.
“We had to expand the team to meet the demands that come with hosting a bigger audience," he noted.
Despite the logistical pressures, van Wyk says the night delivered standout moments on the dancefloor.
A happy crowd
Local DJ Kandeya described one unexpected highlight when the crowd responded to a shift in sound.
“When everyone gathered at the front when they heard Gqom playing… there’s a video of my face lighting up because I wasn’t expecting everyone to come to the dance floor," Kandeya said.
She added that his approach to standing out lies in blending unique genres with familiar sounds.
“The genre I play already stands out, but I also include my remixes of local songs and tracks from international artists that I think the crowd will enjoy."
Fellow DJ Pequenogang highlighted the preparation behind performing at a large-scale event.
“I make sure my music is high quality and properly organised to avoid technical issues. I also select tracks that flow well together and match the energy I want to bring,” he said.
Pequenogang added that fans can expect to hear more tracks like Xakapa by Lowbass Djy in his future sets.
With a mix of international appeal and local talent, the Passionfruit group said they’d continue to position themselves as a growing platform for electronic music in Namibia – one that not only brings global names to local stages but also elevates homegrown DJs in the process.
