Nine choirs set to dazzle at Blended Voices Choral Competition
The second edition of the Blended Voices Choral Competition (BVCC) kicks off today in Windhoek at the National Theatre of Namibia (NTN), bringing together vocal talent from across the country for a celebration of choral music and performance.
The event officially starts at 16:00 with a red-carpet entrance, with performances starting at 17:00.
NTN spokesperson Desiree Mentor told tjil nine choirs from across the country are performing.
They are the Ongwediva Youth Choir, the Lüderitz Youth Choir, the Sion Youth Choir from Otjiwarongo, the Opuwo Youth Choir, the Opuwo Golden Voices Youth Choir, the /Ae//gams Vocal Ensemble from Windhoek, the Walvis Bay Ensemble, the Namib Camerata from Windhoek and the Atlantic Vocal Ensemble from Swakopmund.
She said the competition winners are in line for substantial prizes.
First place will receive N$100 000 and a floating trophy, second place N$50 000, and third place N$30 000.
Judges will evaluate each choir’s performance per song, scoring intonation, diction, choir etiquette, technique, accuracy and musicality.
The choirs were selected through an audition process held in February.
“More than 45 choirs applied, and only nine were chosen based on their performance quality and readiness for the competition," Mentor said.
