Nico’s Pub & Grill Bets on Laughter with Bold New Comedy Series in Windhoek
A new era in Namibian comedy is underway, and it begins at one of Windhoek’s most vibrant social spots on Thursday, 5 June. Nico’s Pub & Grill is set to launch a monthly comedy series titled Nico’s Grill & Laughter Hour, a bold and spirited celebration of local humor and cultural commentary. The series is a collaborative effort between Nico’s Pub, Castle Lite, Alien Art Studios, and other partners aiming to elevate Namibia’s live entertainment scene.
The debut show, titled ‘We Dyed For This Kountry,’ sets the tone for what the venue hopes will become a monthly institution. With a title that pokes fun at the everyday absurdities of Namibian life—from the annoyances of expired toilet paper to the enduring legacy of relatives who still ask for songs via Bluetooth—the show promises to be a satirical but affectionate reflection of the country’s quirks. It’s a production rooted in the understanding that laughter is more than entertainment—it’s a form of survival.
In a move that is starting to generate buzz among comedy fans, renowned comedian Big Mitch will return to the stage as the evening’s host. Known for his sharp wit and magnetic presence, Big Mitch had quietly stepped back from performing in recent years. Now, he says, the call of the stage was simply too strong to ignore. “Retirement was nice,” he joked, “but laughter is cheaper than therapy and more addictive than Nico’s Lager. Plus, my mother says my jokes still work.”
The show will feature performances from some of Namibia’s top comedic voices. Loyd the Comedian, widely recognized for his polished satire and cool delivery, will take the stage alongside Joe White, whose unpredictable style and bold punchlines have earned him a loyal following. Also joining the lineup is Paulo, a quick-witted performer known for his dry humor and charismatic sarcasm.
For Nico Jacobs, owner of Nico’s Pub & Grill, the comedy series represents more than just a night of entertainment. It is part of a larger mission to use the venue as a space for community building and cultural expression. “We didn’t just want to serve good food and cold beer,” Jacobs said. “We wanted to serve culture, joy, and community. Comedy is healing, it’s uniting, and in this kountry—yes, spelled with a ‘k’—we need more of it. Partnering with Big Mitch and Alien Art Studios is a dream come true and a step forward for Namibian entertainment.”
‘We Dyed For This Kountry’ will take place on Thursday, 5 June at Nico’s Pub & Grill in Windhoek. The show runs from 18:30 to 19:30 and tickets are priced at N$70, available via Webtickets Namibia.
