Namibian talent shines at Africa Content Creators Awards
Five Namibian creatives have earned continental nods at the upcoming Africa Content Creators Awards, with public voting now under way.
Organisers are yet to announce the host country, venue and final dates for the ceremony, but fans can already have their say in determining the local winners.
Among those flying the Namibian flag is musician TopCheri, real name Monica Pineas, who scored a nomination in the Best Female Artist Content Creator of the 2025/26 category.
“I felt proud because I know the journey, the sacrifices, and the work that went into getting here," she told tjil this week.
She said the nomination meant a great deal, noting it was not every day that a Namibian artist was recognised on a continental stage.
On whether nominations like this could push local corporate brands to take the creative industry seriously as an economic force, TopCheri was direct: "The creative industry is no longer just entertainment; it's a real economic driver. Content creators, musicians, filmmakers, influencers, designers and many others are creating jobs, building brands, and reaching audiences far beyond our borders."
Media personality Maria Nepembe was nominated in the category Best Media Personality Content Creator of the year 2025/26.
“I think it reinforces something many of us already know. Namibian talent has never been the issue, visibility has. Recognition on a continental platform reminds creatives that they don’t need to shrink their ambitions to fit within geographical borders," she said.
Asked whether the nomination felt like validation of her career legacy or a new benchmark for the future, Nepembe said: “A bit of both, honestly. It’s one of those moments where you pause dramatically, stare into the distance, and think, ‘Well, this is cute.’”
Breaking through
Namibian fashion stylist Hilary Malongi, known as Hilary Wang, was nominated for Best Fashion Stylist Content Creator. "When I first saw the nomination flyer, I honestly had to look at it more than once to believe it was real," he admitted.
"As creators, we spend so much time working behind the scenes, investing in our craft, and trusting a vision that not everyone understands at the beginning," he added.
Malongi said the response since his nomination "has been incredibly humbling".
He said apart from a minority of negative responses, the overwhelming response has been positive and "reminded me how powerful the community can be".
Namibian TikToker Jamie-Lee Loss, known as J.Loss, was nominated for Best TikTok Content Creator of the Year, alongside Taimi Nuuyango, who received a nomination for Best Makeup Artist Content Creator of the Year.
