MTC has thrown its weight behind Namibia’s growing content creation industry with a sponsorship commitment of N$4.5 million over the next three years. The announcement was made on Thursday evening at the official media launch of the 2025 Content Creator Awards, held at Stick & Whistle in Windhoek.

Now officially branded as the MTC Content Creator Awards, the annual event celebrates Namibian digital storytellers across various platforms, from social media to television. This year’s edition will feature 21 award categories.

Speaking at the launch, Carlos Gurirab, a co-founder of the awards, hailed the telecom company’s support as a major milestone for the industry. “The MTC Content Creator Awards is a prestigious event dedicated to celebrating the talent and creativity of individuals, brands and agencies shaping the content creation industry and telling Namibian stories,” Gurirab said.

He added that this year’s nomination announcement will be announced in September at Ster Kinekor cinema at Grove Mall, followed by a creators’ workshop in November. The awards ceremony itself is scheduled for 6 December at the National Theatre of Namibia.

Recognising local talent

Representing MTC, spokesperson Erasmus Nekundi underlined the company’s commitment to Namibia’s creative economy. “When we resolved to sponsor these awards, it was not because we wanted to advance our brand, but because we wanted to celebrate, recognise, appreciate and support the growth of the talents of many,” he said.

Nekundi stressed the economic potential of the creative sector. “If taken seriously in all forms, it can aid livelihoods. We believe the creative industry is one where one can make a decent income and live off it,” he said. “However, in its current state, there is much to be desired. It will take a collective effort to elevate the sector to where we all envision it.”

He concluded by revealing that MTC would invest N$1.5 million into this year’s event and N$4.5 million over the next three years.

The Content Creator Awards, now in their second year, have become a benchmark for recognising excellence in Namibia’s digital and entertainment landscape. With MTC onboard as the title sponsor, organisers say they aim to scale the platform even further, amplifying local stories and encouraging more creators to boldly share their voices with the world.
