Mathew Erastus, award-winning Namibian fashion designer and owner of MN Creations, is poised to transform the local fashion scene with his latest show, 'The Enchanted Forest'.
In an interview with tjil, Erastus shared insights into his creative process and the inspiration behind the show, which is set to take place tomorrow, 3 February, at Et Cetera in Windhoek.
Facing personal and professional stagnation, he sought to reflect and initiate change, leading to the theme 'The Enchanted Forest'.
"I wanted something that is intriguing and bold. It needed to be enchanting and not expected, something that will blow people’s minds," he explained.
Challenging traditional fashion norms, Erastus said he aims to redefine styling by combining various elements in a way that is both minimalistic and bold. This approach reflects a shift in how fashion is perceived and styled, moving away from loud statements to noticeable, understated elegance, he added.
Element of surprise
Innovation is key in 'The Enchanted Forest'. Erastus teased the use of diverse textures, including cotton and silk, along with unique techniques such as ruffles. However, he invited fashion enthusiasts to attend the show to witness these innovations first-hand, keeping an element of surprise.
Sustainability is a cornerstone of MN Creations' philosophy. In preparation for the show, Erastus and his team have recycled fabrics from past projects, minimising waste and demonstrating a commitment to environmental responsibility.
Anticipated trends emerging from the show include big sleeves, crop tops and baggy pants, complemented by bold and vibrant colors.
“This trendsetting approach is expected to resonate with the audience, introducing fresh perspectives to the fashion world,” the designer said.
Immersive experience
Beyond fashion, 'The Enchanted Forest' promises an immersive experience. While details remain under wraps, attendees can expect a holistic event that transcends traditional runway shows, offering a unique blend of art, culture and fashion.
Erastus noted that it is more than just a fashion show: “It's a statement of creative resilience and innovation".
