Miss Namibia contestants to grace international stages

STAFF REPORTER
For the first time in Miss Namibia history, four beauty queens will represent the country on international stages. The title holders have been selected to represent Namibia at the Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss Earth and Miss Teen International pageants.

The pageant made the official announcement on Monday, 12 September.

Miss Namibia 2022 Cassia Sharpley (21) will represent Namibia at Miss Universe, while first runner-up Leone van Jaarsveld (26) will fly the Namibian flag high at Miss World.

Second runner-up Diana Andimba (23) will take part in the Miss Earth competition, and Miss Teen Namibia, Zoe Karsten (17), will represent the country at Miss Teen International.

“The titles and honour to participate at these international pageants present each candidate not only with a life-changing opportunity, but also with national responsibilities and obligations,” the organisers said in a statement.

“They will serve as beacons of hope and important role models as enduring examples of service for so many Namibians, especially young people.”

Promoting tourism

The organisation added that the four women will be “uniquely positioned to highlight deserving charitable causes and alleviating the suffering of many, and, importantly, will also bear the responsibility to serve our country as goodwill ambassadors on international stages to create global awareness of our beautiful land and its people”.

Miss Namibia national pageant director Umbi Karuaihe-Upi added that participation in international pageants not only empowers young women, but also promotes local tourism on global platforms.

“We get to show off Namibia on a global scale while our candidates calibrate on a higher level of consciousness, proudly powered by NBC and serving under the broadcaster’s ‘NBC Cares’ banner, to go hand in hand with the ‘Beauty for Charity’ causes each candidate will carry out.”
