More than a decade after bursting onto the Namibian music scene as a teenage sensation, Linda Simasiku, known simply as 'Linda', is poised to make her long-awaited return to the stage.

On Sunday, 3 August, the former child star will perform at the DJ Maphorisa Live in Windhoek concert at Hage Geingob Stadium, marking her first public performance since stepping away from the limelight due to personal and family challenges.

Now older and, in her own words, still "figuring things out," Linda spoke exclusively to tjil ahead of her comeback.

“Explaining how the time away has shaped me isn’t something I can really do,” she said. “I’m still trying to fix myself up. I don’t know what the new feeling of being on stage will be like, but I’m excited to see what it has for me, good or bad.”

Linda rose to fame in 2012 with her breakout single ‘I Believe’ featuring Zambian artist Petersen, a track that catapulted her to national recognition. That same year, at just 16, she released her debut 19-track album, ‘Golden and Cool Entrance’, and made history at the Namibia Annual Music Awards (NAMAs), scooping best newcomer, best collaboration, and song of the year, all in a single night.

This weekend, she will share a stage with South African hitmaker DJ Maphorisa, something she still finds hard to believe. “Sharing the stage with DJ Maphorisa is an imagination I never thought would come to reality,” she said. “Yes, I’ve travelled around, but I won’t lie, I’m a supporter too. So I’m happy to say it’s amazing, and I can’t wait.”

Return to the spotlight

Linda credits her return not only to personal resilience but to the unwavering support of those around her. “This is mostly happening because of the support from Zeccano and Chezlam,” she shared. “But I put all my thanks in God, our Heavenly Father. Everything I was able to do to prepare was because of him.”

While she remained tight-lipped about whether she’ll debut new music during her set, playfully encouraging fans to “come through to the show to find that out for themselves,” she hinted that this performance is not a one-off.

“My fans have been asking me why I let them go and begging me to come back,” she said. “So I can call this a comeback, and with everyone’s support, I can say there is no place I will go aside from their hearts.”

For the fans who grew up with her music and for a new generation yet to witness her live, Sunday promises a heartfelt return from one of Namibia’s most beloved young stars.
