JUST IN: National literary festival kicks off
Sanet Steenkamp, the executive director of the education, arts and culture ministry, this morning officially opened Namibia's first ever national literary festival, which will take place at the National Archives of Namibia from today until Saturday.
Steenkamp urged Namibians to start telling the stories that are locked up inside them.
"I walked kilometres to the former white library in Karasburg when I was Standard 6 to get books to read. When last did you smell a book and fall asleep reading a book? This is a call for all of us to participate and engage. This has been pulled off against so many odds," she said of the festival, which is themed 'Open a Book'.
