Jericho releases new single ‘Komesho’
Award-winning Namibian rapper and songwriter Jericho Gawanab, known professionally as Jericho, released a new track titled 'Komesho' this week.
Jericho, who made history in 2011 as the first hip-hop artist to win best male artist at the Namibian Annual Music Awards, described the new song as a powerful message of victory.
Jericho told tjil in a telephone interview that the song draws inspiration from his 2010 award-winning hit, 'Hetapate'.
He said ‘Komesho’ is a reminder that while life presents obstacles, every challenge eventually passes.
“We tend to go through things in life and forget who we truly are. The song is about being victorious no matter the situation. Don’t give up and always look up to God,” he said.
The artist said he changed the melodies and introduced new energy on the track.
He collaborated with Linda following the death of Tunakie, his previous collaborator, to whom he paid tribute, saying, "Rest easy."
He also credited Max T with reintroducing nostalgic elements to the song.
“The song shows maturity with the new wave currently shaping the music industry, but I didn’t want to lose the Jericho in me,” he explained, describing the collaboration as deep and meaningful.
Jericho said he personally directed the concept after receiving the instrumental, ensuring the track carried the intended message and energy.
Describing 'Komesho' as inspired by 'Hetapate', Jericho believes the song stands firmly on its own. “It’s in its own field and represents itself,” he said, calling the release a proud moment in his career.
