UPDATE: Member of Parliament Inna Hengari on Tuesday, 11 June called for sweeping reforms to the domestic broadcasting landscape, proposing a dedicated Local Content Development Fund to back Namibian musicians, filmmakers, and producers. Citing the dominance of foreign content on local airwaves and a lack of clear regulatory guidelines, Hengari emphasised the need to revise Rule 28 and introduce evidence-based policies to boost local creative output. She urged part of the N$50 million allocated to the creative sector be redirected to fund homegrown storytelling, arguing that Namibia’s small population can be a global advantage through niche, high-value cultural content. “With only 15% local music on radio and 10% local programming on TV, our creatives are sidelined. We must empower them to build an industry that reflects our identity and drives economic growth,” she said.
