UPDATE: Namibian podcaster Zeccano Shitaleni told Network Media Hub that he has found a safe and supportive environment for Linda Simasiku, Namibia’s youngest music award winner, following her now viral interview on his podcast What A Life with Zeccano.
Shitaleni revealed that he is currently shielding Linda from becoming overwhelmed by the public attention while helping her access psychological support and medical care for her epilepsy condition, which she disclosed in the interview.
“Only once she is psychologically sound will she return to studio to record music,” he said.
Since the interview aired, Namibians have responded with an outpouring of support. Good Samaritans across the country have pledged assistance in the form of money, clothes, and cosmetics. “Namibians are coming through. There are bags of clothes ready to be picked up,” said Shitaleni.
He added that those wishing to assist can contact him directly at 264 81 339 5865. A registry is being kept for transparency, in line with a personal request from Linda, who has expressed her wish to personally call and thank every supporter once the dust settles.
Linda rose to national fame with her debut song ‘I Believe’ featuring Zambian artist Peterson, released in 2012. That same year, she launched her 19-track debut album ‘Golden and Cool Entrance.’ At just 16, she made history by winning three NAMA awards—Best Newcomer, Best Collaboration, and Song of the Year.
