Conwill Feris pens personal memoir on mental health
Mental health advocate, author and public speaker Conwill Feris is set to release his long-awaited debut book, 'The Quiet Between Heartbeats', although an official release date is still pending.
In a telephone interview with tjil, Feris said the book was inspired "by my personal journey through life's challenges, especially the struggles surrounding mental health”.
He wrote the book to share his "experiences, encourage honest conversations, and remind people that they are not alone in what they are facing”.
Feris hopes the book will inspire a sense of hope, resilience and the courage to seek healing, no matter how difficult a reader's circumstances may be.
The book's title, 'The Quiet Between Heartbeats', represents “the silent moments we often experience during pain, loss, anxiety and self-reflection, the moments that nobody sees but that shape us the most," the author said.
"It symbolises the space between struggle and healing, between feeling broken and finding strength again."
Feris chose the title because the book explores those often overlooked moments in life and mental health "where real growth happens".
Talk openly
As a mental health advocate, Feris was motivated to write a book based on his experiences after he realised that many of the challenges he encountered were similar to those other people have faced.
“Just for them to know that there is someone that resonates with their life story and how I overcame my challenges. They can make use of the insight from my book as guidance, motivation and encouragement," he said.
“For young people, I want it to encourage them to speak openly about what they are going through and to know that they are not alone.
"For families, I hope it creates understanding, empathy, and stronger support systems for loved ones facing challenges," he added.
Feris is already working on his second book, another literary memoir.
