We are halfway through the year, and 2026 has already delivered some incredible films, from outstanding science fiction such as Project Hail Mary to indie horror films like Obsession and Backrooms. However, there is still plenty more on the way.

I knew 2026 was going to be a good year for cinema, but there have been so many surprises. I would be lying if I said some films had not disappointed me, but on the other hand, a number of them have genuinely impressed me. Here are a few films to look forward to between July and December.

The Odyssey

Christopher Nolan returns with what could be his biggest film yet. It is the first film in history to be shot entirely in IMAX, which is incredibly exciting. The cast is phenomenal, featuring Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Charlize Theron and many more. It has the potential to become my favourite film of the year.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day

It is no secret that Spider-Man is my favourite character of all time. Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker, and this time it looks as though we are getting a more grounded story. As much as I enjoyed the previous films in this series, I think it is great that we are finally getting a Spider-Man who has to stand on his own two feet.

The End of Oak Street

I enjoy a good dinosaur film, and this one looks as though it might be genuinely frightening. Dinosaurs are supposed to be terrifying and intimidating. The trailers have completely convinced me that we are going to get exactly that, so hopefully it does not disappoint.

How to Rob a Bank

David Leitch is steadily becoming one of my favourite filmmakers. He understands how great stunts and action sequences can elevate a film, and that is because he started out as a stunt performer himself. Nicolas Hoult, Anna Sawai and Zoë Kravitz star in the leading roles, and that alone was enough to get me excited.

Digger

The new Tom Cruise film remains very mysterious. Alejandro G. Iñárritu is directing, and it is said to be a satirical black comedy. All I know is that it follows a powerful man racing against time to save humanity from something he himself set in motion. Tom Cruise is one of the last remaining true movie stars, so I have no doubt he will deliver another excellent performance.

Street Fighter

If you grew up with video games in the 1990s, this title will probably sound familiar. The film is based on the Street Fighter video game series and appears to be embracing all the strange and absurd elements that made the games so memorable. It looks like a lot of fun – one of those films where you can simply switch off your brain and enjoy the ride.

Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three

The two biggest films of the year are being released on the very same day. I have high expectations for both, although I always remain cautiously optimistic because nothing can truly top Dune: Part Two and Avengers: Endgame. I suppose we will just have to wait and see.

There are so many other fantastic films that I could not fit into this list. All I can say is this: you had better start saving now if you want to afford all those cinema tickets.
