‘OMDis Artists in Residence’ exhibition opens in Windhoek

The OMDis Artists in Residence: 2025 Art Exhibition opened at the Namibian Arts Association in Windhoek on Tuesday, 29 July, following its debut in Oranjemund in May. Running until 29 August, the exhibition is a collaborative project between the Oranjemund Art Centre, StArt Art Gallery and the Namibian Arts Association.Featuring works by artists Edeltraut Rath, Hildegard Titus and Kevlyn Gowases, the exhibition spans painting, ceramics, photography and video art. Each artist spent time in Oranjemund earlier this year as part of the OMDis residency, producing new bodies of work that engage with the landscape, identity and memory.Artist’s minds Rath, a German painter with a long-standing connection to Namibia, presents delicate watercolours inspired by the colours of the desert and sky, exploring gradients and overlays shaped by Oranjemund’s natural light. Titus, a Windhoek-based visual artist and filmmaker, explores womanhood, fertility, and reproductive rights in Fruit of Her Womb, a deeply personal project using photography and film. Recent ceramics graduate Gowases brings a tactile approach to the show, using wild clay sourced from the Orange River to hand-build abstract forms that echo the land’s history and texture.Evolving voices The exhibition also saw the launch of an official catalogue featuring images of all the works and reflective texts by the artists and curators.Through this travelling showcase, the residency not only nurtures artistic growth but also connects remote creative experiences with broader Namibian audiences.
