Movie Guy: There Is a Lot to Talk About
It has been a busy couple of weeks, and there are a few TV shows and films that people may have missed. Many shows have returned with new seasons, and a few wonderful films have made their debut in cinemas. I didn’t get the chance to review everything, but now is as good a time as any to do so.
Beasts in your neighbourhood
I was very excited to go and watch The End of Oak Street, and I can say with a smile that I was not disappointed. It may even have been better than I had hoped. I don’t want to spoil the movie for anyone, but it basically follows a family whose entire neighbourhood is somehow transported back in time to an era when dinosaurs were still roaming the Earth. They have to try to stay alive while figuring out how to get back home.
It is an original story that is clearly influenced by movies from the 1980s and 1990s. The movie is not afraid to take risks. The story does take a while to get going, but once the dinosaurs make their appearance, the action begins. For me, it is an easy 4 out of 5 stars.
The show with heart
Ted Lasso also made its long-awaited return with a fourth season on Apple TV, and I actually think it was worth the wait. It doesn’t start on the best note, but after two episodes, I’m just glad that the show is back. It does feel as though something is missing, but I’m glad that most of the original cast has returned.
The humour is still there, and the show still has a kind-hearted feel. I really like the new cast and can’t wait to see what they have to offer. I think focusing on the women’s team is a risk that will pay off. I just hope we also get a few appearances from the men’s team. The new season gets 3 and a half out of 5 stars from me.
Our hero is back
Reacher is also back for a fourth season on Prime Video, and I think it is the best season since the first one. Don’t get me wrong, this show has no bad seasons, but this season had me hooked from the very first minute. I think this story is very relevant to how things are in real life. Jack Reacher basically represents the hero we all wish we could be.
Alan Ritchson is once again phenomenal as Reacher, and this season’s supporting cast is just as strong. The action is excellent, even better than I had hoped, and it makes for wonderful entertainment. Sometimes you need a show that is just simple fun, and that is exactly what this is. It is not just a distraction, but also worth watching. It is an easy 4 and a half out of 5 stars for me. I can’t stop recommending this show.
New
Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie is also currently in cinemas, although I haven’t watched it. I assume, however, that it will be great for families. The new Jason Statham movie, Mutiny, is being released today, and I’m really looking forward to it.
